MOUNT CARMEL – Dorothy B. “Grammy” Thurner, 84, of 242 W. Second St., died Friday, March 11, 2022 at her home.

She was born in Kulpmont, June 27, 1937, daughter of Alex and Anna (Olbrish) Kasinowski.

Dorothy grew up in Kulpmont and attended St. Casimir’s School.

In her younger years, she worked at the Shamokin Shoe Factory and at Kanmack Mills in Kulpmont.

On March 11, 2006, she married Carl Thurner, at Holy Angels Church. Carl predeceased her on January 27, 2019.

Dorothy was a member of Holy Angels Church, the VFW, the American Legion and the West End Fire Co., all of Kulpmont, and the Lithuanian Club, Mount Carmel.

Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She spent her life caring for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and was kind, loving, caring, and generous to everyone. Dorothy loved to cook, cook, shop and go to the casino.

Dorothy is survived by two daughters, Mary McSurdy and her husband, Robert, of Kulpmont, and Dolly Dadurka and her husband, Dwayne, of Ashland; a son, Glenn Barwicki and his wife, Ann, of Kulpmont; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a son-in-law, John Buggy, of Kulpmont.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Frances Barwicki; her second husband, Carl Thurner; his daughter, Rita Buggy; two sisters; four brothers; and a grandson, Glenn Francis Barwicki.

THURNER – Dorothy B. “Grammy” Thurner, 84, of 242 W. Second St., Mount Carmel. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday with Father Andrew Stahmer officiating at Holy Angels Church, 855 Scott St., Kulpmont. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery in Elysburg. The viewing will take place at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Wednesday mass.
