It’s the last weekend of August and there are several events planned in the Mother Lode.
Today, Thursday, August 25, is the season finale of the Twain Harte Mountain Air Market from 4:00 p.m. until dusk at the Eproson Park ball diamond. Stock up on fruits and vegetables, chocolates and baked goods, artisan creations and more. Details are in the event listing here.
Tonight is also Astronomy Night at Calaveras Big Trees. Guides will share information and tell stories as everyone watches the night sky. Two telescopes and astronomical binoculars will give you a closer look at the moon, planets and deep sky objects. There is a webcam for one of the telescopes, so images can be displayed in real time on a 40 inch monitor. The next one will be on September 8 when the moon is out. Habitat for Humanity Calaveras is currently hosting its Hoedown for Humanity virtual silent auction and raffle. It’s their biggest fundraising event of the year. Organizers say that by the end of the year, they will have repaired over 45 Calaveras homes representing over $225,000 in construction costs. The second annual Sierra Bigfoot Music Festival with live music, an art exhibit and an outdoor market begins Friday at Twain Harte. The lineup is here and you can win tickets by listening to Country 93.5 KKBN. Also this weekend, on the small stage in Epproson Park, the Small Town Wine Down takes place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Wines in the Pines event will showcase delicious wines paired with cheeses and appetizers from local businesses, as detailed here.
Calaveras Comedy presents a Saturday comedy show with several guests at the Rancho Calaveras Clubhouse at 3995 Highway 26 in Valley Springs. More details on the adult show are in the event listing here.
Tuolumne County Association of REALTORS & TCYPN invites everyone to the Party in the Park & Cornhole Tournament at Tuolumne Park on Saturday, August 27 from noon to 6 p.m. All funds raised go to their Homeowners Insurance Grant Fund to help Tuolumne County residents with the high costs of homeowners insurance. It’s Doll Day at Calaveras at Tri-Lakes Church, Wallace on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The event will pay tribute to Harold and Caroline Doll, for their more than 50 years of service to their community.
The Mountain Ranch Car Show and Craft Faire will also take place on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Mountain Ranch Community Park.
Updates from Murphys Creek Theatre, they are postponing their opening weekend for King Lear to September 2nd due to Covid-19.
In Groveland, they are hosting a Summer Fest on Saturday at Mary Laveroni Community Park, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
