Obituary by Rose Schulte (1929 – 2021) – Wilmington, DE


Rose Mary (Burroughs) Schulte, 92, a resident of The Summit Retirement Community in Hockessin, DE, died on October 2, 2021 at her home.
Ms. Schulte was born on June 26, 1929 in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late Clara P. (Mattes) and Henry D. Burroughs. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Johns Hopkins University in 1951 and worked at Georgetown University Hospital. Her career included work in hospitals, hospices and nursing training institutions. On May 30, 1953, she married Dr. Joseph E. Schulte at St. Mary’s Church in Alexandria, Virginia, and together they raised their children in Towson, Maryland.
Artistically gifted, her talents included multimedia painting and learning new skills through YouTube videos. Among her various interests and volunteer activities, she was a teacher at the Baltimore Museum of Art. His youth shone in his adoption of new technologies and social media. She used Facebook and Facetime daily with her family and friends.
A woman of deep faith in the Catholic Church, Ms. Schulte has served as a Eucharistic minister to the sick and led a Legion of Mary group and various activities at the Summit through weekly prayers and discussions and visiting the sick.
She is predeceased by her husband, Dr Joseph E Schulte; one son, Joseph E Schulte II; a grandson, Joseph Schulte III; two brothers, David Burroughs and Henry D. Burroughs; and a sister, Jane M. Dollins. She is survived by five children, Michael (Kim) Schulte, of Ocean City, NJ; Anne Marie (Rick) Biddle, of Newark, DE; Timothy Schulte Ph.D. of Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey; John (Val) Schulte of Wilmington, DE; Philip (Nemia) Schulte Ph.D. of Pompano Beach, Florida; one daughter-in-law, Brenda Schulte, of Ocean City, NJ; 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the many Summit Angels and all the caregivers who made each transition easier for Ms. Schulte and the family.
A Christian Burial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, 7200 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707. Visitations will be held prior to Mass from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. h. . Interment will be held in private for the family.
