The Centralia Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, along with Lewis County Parks and Recreation and Vegetation Management, will host a community service event on Saturday, September 10 beginning at 9 hours to clean up Schaefer Park.

The cleanup effort is organized in commemoration of those lost in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

Anyone interested is welcome to help. About 200 Lewis County volunteers and staff are already expected to participate.

The cleanup effort will focus on trails around the park, removing fallen trees, painting over graffiti and sanding picnic tables. Those planning to go are also asked to bring chainsaws, sanding equipment, weeders, wheelbarrows, pruning equipment, handsaws and lawn chairs if possible.

Cleanup efforts are expected to continue until noon, when a picnic and barbecue will begin for the volunteers. Although lunch is provided, volunteers are encouraged to bring additional side dishes or desserts for the potluck.

Schaefer Park is located north of the Centralia city limits at 822 Downing Road, just off State Route 507.
