Hillman VFW Aux. meet

A regular meeting of Auxiliary VFW 2356 was opened by President Tom Brown at 6 p.m. Holiday donations have been decided. A thought card for you has been signed by all for Comrade Jim Knorr who is seriously injured. A holiday party for active members was discussed and presented to Commander Bob Hunt to be presented to the VFW for finalization. Caregivers receive a special thank you for what they do. The meeting traditionally ended to open at 6 p.m. on the first Tuesday in December.

Alpena VFW Auxiliary Meeting in November

The regular meeting of Auxiliary VFW 2496 was opened by President Darryl McQuarrie at 6 p.m. on November 9 with 12 members in attendance.

Last month’s secretary’s minutes were presented and the treasurer’s report delivered and approved, awaiting audit. Mary submitted the audit report from July to September. A donation of $ 2,000 was presented during the Sunday bingo.

A card was read from Linda Millard thanking everyone who volunteered to make the Halloween party for the Monday activity group a huge success. Party goers were surprised with additional gift bags to take away. Commander Tammy Doffek visited the meeting and thanked the Auxiliary for all his support and help in the VFW projects.

Several committee chairs reported on projects that have been completed over the past month. Four members attended the District 13 meeting on November 6 and donated a gift basket to help the district president raise the necessary funds. The President received an Award of Excellence for Auxiliary Community Service. Members were made aware of several upcoming events taking place next week, including Veterans Day and the Buddy Poppy Sales. Another artisanal bazaar is scheduled for December 11.

It was decided to organize a Christmas dinner for the participants in the meetings of the posts and auxiliaries on December 14th. The emblems of the 5 entities involved at extension 2496 have been installed on the building and are being wired for the lights.

The closing ritual took place and President Darryl adjourned the meeting at 7:05 am The next meeting is at 6:00 pm on December 14th with dinner preceding the meeting.

Holiday cookies offered by the senior center

Place your holiday cookie orders at Alpena Senior Citizens Center. Call 989-356-3585 to reserve your cookie tray, which will include an assortment of cookies displayed on a tray, wrapped in ribbon. A dozen cookies cost $ 8, two dozen $ 14, and three dozen $ 20. This is a fundraiser for senior programs. The senior center is located at 501 River St., Alpena.

Parenting Power Workshop Tuesday

Join other parents for the next Power of Parenting workshop from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. via Zoom, on reconnecting with the importance of family history.

Text Power to 989-250-2907 to RSVP for this event by noon today. Parents in the AMA district will receive a book to fill out in Our Family to attend. Power of Parenting workshops are planned by the Parenting Education team with funding provided by the Alpena Presque Isle Child Abuse & Neglect team.

This workshop on parental power aligns with the framework for strengthening families by promoting the following protective factors: knowledge of parenthood and child development; and social connections.

Order your Christmas dinner before Friday

Friday is the deadline to reserve your Christmas dinner for pickup only at Alpena Senior Citizens Center. Meals will be available for pickup on Wednesday, December 8. Call 989-356-3585 to reserve your meal, which will include pineapple glazed ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetables, a bun, cheesecake and juice. The suggested donation for those aged 60 and over is $ 3.50 and the cost for those under 60 is $ 7. The senior center is located at 501 River St., Alpena.

Christmas lunch / Saturday auction in Rogers City

GFWC Rogers City Area Civic League will host a Christmas lunch / auction on Saturday. The event will begin at noon and will include a buffet lunch, prizes, auction and cash bar, at Nautical Lanes, 377 N. Third St., Rogers City. Tickets are $ 25, presale only, and must be reserved by calling Renee at 989-734-7457. GFWC stands for General Federation of Women’s Clubs.

Sportsmen’s Club Wild Game Dinner Saturday

The Alpena Sportsmen’s Club Wild Game Dinner and Raffle will take place on Saturday. Tickets are $ 40 each, which includes a wild game dinner and drinks. There will be 12 gun raffles throughout the night, along with many more raffles and giveaways. Tickets are available at Jimmie Garant’s Party store, Cliff Anschuetz Chevrolet, or any member of the Sportsmen’s Club board of directors. The dinner will take place at the Alpena Sportsmen’s Club, 4260 M-32, Alpena. The profits will be used to finance the programs put in place by the Sportsmen’s Club throughout the coming year.

Grace Lutheran pastry sale on Saturday

The Grace Lutheran Church will be holding a Christmas bake sale from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, featuring an assortment of cookies, bread, candy and other baked goods. The church is located at 119 W. Dunbar St., Alpena.
