Trees lit up ahead of the Sanford Shines event on December 3

As people walked through Sanford’s Porte Park on Saturday night to see the illuminated Christmas trees, this was just a glimpse of what was to come on Friday, December 3, when Sanford Shines activities cover the village.

Even more trees are expected to be added to Porte Park for the second annual Sanford Shines, said organizer Anna Merillat of Sanford. She said Saturday was kind of a smooth opening for the main event on December 3.

For some people walking through the park, it was a beautiful scene.

“It really helps put me in the Christmas mood,” said Midland driver Tom Adkins.

Merillat said she was giving Shine and Windemueller serious props for their efforts to light up the city. In addition, they made a giant tree in the center of the park. She said they have the village’s deepest appreciation.

December 3 activities include carnival games and crafts from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Lanny’s Old Building and at the Sanford Community Church of Christ. A singing Santa will be at the old Sanford Hardware ice cream shop, also from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

There will be face paint and holiday hairstyles at CJ’s from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. And the Christmas line dancing is scheduled from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Studio.

Cancer awareness and mitten / glove trees can be seen at the entrance to Porte Park. One can see the lights of Saginaw Road and the entrance to Porte Park while enjoying a barbecue, pizza, cocoa and cookies.

In addition, the Red Oak Lounge will offer specialty food and cocktails throughout the day. There will also be sales of Sanford Swag items, which include Sanford Strong t-shirts and Men of Sanford calendars. Each is $ 20. Proceeds will go to the ball fields at Village Park.

Sanford Shines culminates with a parade, lining up at 5 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and starting at 6 p.m. The parade ends at the Sanford Centennial Museum. Christmas lights are required for all parade registrations.
